The Glacier Performing Arts Center Will -
Culturally:
  • Enhance the quality of life in Northwest Montana and the surrounding region by presenting a broad spectrum of quality arts events and by providing a home for local artistic, cultural and educational groups.
  • Offer a wide range of activities including musicals, symphonic, choral and band concerts, dance performances, plays, readings, speakers, and lectures.
  • Establish a larger performing arts venue in NW Montana with respect to stage size and seating capacity with professionally designed acoustics and lighting.
  • Provide cultural activities, such as traveling Broadway-type shows and renowned guest artists and speakers, all of which remain affordable because of the center’s larger seating capacity.
  • Provide high quality acoustical facilities for concerts, music festivals, institutes and other performing arts activities.
  • Provide linkage and allow for enhanced and/or expanded activities with other community assets, such as the Glacier Symphony and Chorale, Flathead Valley Concerts Association, Inc. Flathead Valley Community Band, community choral, theatrical and dance groups, the multiple private performance groups, Hockaday Museum of Art, Flathead County Library, Flathead Valley Community College, The Museum (Central School Museum), O’Shaughnessy Cultural Arts Center, Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts, Central School Auditorium, Majestic Valley Arena, visual and ceramic artists, K-12 educational activities, tourism industry, and churches, to name some examples.
  • Enable residents, especially those unable to travel to distant cities for performances, to attend “Main Stage” events locally.

Economically:

  • Promote a positive impact on Northwest Montana.
  • Provide additional opportunities for the commercial sector, such as small businesses, restaurants, lodgings, and recreation, because performing arts activities in Northwest Montana are increasing.
  • Attract more than 28,400 visits by local attendees to performances each year. Not included in this figure are visits by tourists, seasonal residents, conventioneers, school groups and those from outside the immediate area. (ArtsMarket 2002 study analysis estimate).
  • Increase off-site spending directly associated with performing arts center attendance by at least by $2.3 million annually, and will support 53 new FTE off-site jobs in the local economy in the restaurant, hotel and retail sectors. (ArtsMarket 2003 business modeling report).
  • Provide an additional quality-of-life asset to help attract businesses with potential well-paying jobs to the area.
  • Provide a long-term asset that will support economic development efforts.
  • Link with business and community activities that need additional space for their events; e.g. large group opening and closing sessions for conventions, and receptions.
  • Complement and benefit other Northwest Montana performing arts venues, museums, and tourism, through joint and complementary marketing of activities.
  • Further develop a niche in the summer and shoulder-season performing and visual arts activities in addition to year around events; advanced marketing to include Montana, Idaho, Washington, Southern British Columbia and Alberta areas, Glacier Park, Big Mountain, and Flathead Valley visitors in general; emphasis to be on valley-wide events for destination visitors and on coordination with other activity sponsors.
  • Add to the promotion of Northwest Montana when marketing to outside interests.

Educationally:

  • Provide the public with opportunities for fulfillment through experiencing live performances.
  • Provide performing arts education demonstrative of the highest levels of artistic achievement.
  • Provide additional opportunities for local talent to be incorporated in traveling shows that encourage local participation when extras are needed.
  • Provide programming especially designed for children and young people, such as master storytellers, authors of children’s books and plays intended for young audiences.
  • Provide the youth of the area with exposure to a variety of art forms.
  • Expand visiting performing artists’ presentations to our area youth, including through outreach programs.
  • Provide student internships in all facets of theater operation.
  • Allow larger student audiences to attend youth concerts, such as those presented by the Glacier Symphony and Chorale through its “Wild About Music” programs.
  • Provide a large venue for performances, concerts, graduations and other activities involving K-12 students and those at Flathead Valley Community College
  • Provide Master Class and workshop opportunities for students, adults, and aspiring artists.
